Many online schools will also give you a small amount of information and ask you to request more detailed information which you can receive by e-mail or by postal mail. This gives universities a chance to recruit you and help you find reasons to choose their learning institution.
There are also resource websites that will let you browse a list of all schools within certain parameters. Maybe you want to do a regional search, a search by degree type, a search by program or a search of related career paths and salary levels for a particular job area.
Some online schools will offer web casts to help you tour their online classrooms and online campus via the web cast. This can give you an opportunity to ask questions and see that school at a level that can help you determine whether or not it is for you.
When searching for degrees by subject, there are many items to take into account. Above and beyond the subject itself, look at items such as:
- Credit requirements or how long it will take you to complete the course
- Tuition fees and available payment options as well as interest rates, book fees and any other required fees associated with the course
- Technical support issues such as whether or not 24/7 support is available if you are having a problem with the online classroom environment at three o’clock in the morning
- What type of faculty support can you expect? Are there are team of advisors to help you, will you have an assigned representative of the school working with you on your issues, etc.
- Is the school program accredited regionally and will your potential employer options see the degree as sufficient to work in that field?
- What post-graduate options are available?
- What is the placement rate of graduates of your particular program
