Degree Mills

Degree mills have been around for many years and offer a degree for a price. These organizations are typically not accredited so investing money into a degree mill is, in essence, throwing your money and time away.

These degrees mills can be one of two types for the most part. The first type appears to be a legitimate school but without an appropriate accreditation. You will pay your tuition and study at your chosen course but the results will be that your earned degree is not recognizable by accrediting institutions. This means that your degree is basically not worth much more than the paper it is printed on. Companies may not recognize it as applicable to a job you apply for and some trade organizations won’t admit you to their organization or union without the proper credentials.

The other type of degree mill is one that simply sells you a degree without expecting you to learn the skills needed to do that job. This can be dangerous. You may think that a degree on paper can do something for your resume but in reality, most companies today do background checks to ensure that their hired employees do have the credentials that they claim to have. Many companies hire private investigators to investigate potential or existing staff and you could be help civilly and criminally liable if you misrepresent yourself and your abilities.

It’s not hard to find online a list of degree mill colleges listing institutions such has Trinity College of the bible degree mill and others. Many of them misrepresent themselves to potential students by having a name that sounds very close to an esteemed college or university. This can mislead students or their potential employers into believing a degree is from an institution that is highly esteemed or accredited.

Earning a degree is something to be proud of and the skills gained can do a lot for your career as well as provide you the unique experience of college and life experience and a degree mill can take that experience away. Some people knowingly participate in degree mills in order to cut corners. Others are unwillingly fooled by a seemingly legitimate institution.

Some unaccredited institutions are not necessarily scam artist but most would agree that you would receive the best possible results in an invested education via an accredited learning institution.

It’s essential that you do due diligence in researching an online school before enrolling.
